From the technical perspective, unicontrol is a universal platform exploiting the wireless and GPIO capabilities of the ESP8266 microcontroller in a single comprehensive and user-friendly package.

What is ESP8266

ESP8266 is a powerful microcontroller combining the versatility of arduino boards with Wi-Fi connectivity which makes it an ideal tool for home automation. Even if you are new to the IoT field and are only starting to think of tinkering your own application and ways to do it, you may already be an owner of ESP8266 without knowing. It is often contained in many off-brand smart light bulbs, power switches, IoT cameras or EV chargers you have previously bought thanks to the unmatched versatility of this microcontroller. And this is where unicontrol steps in.

The unicontrol allows the user to access a large range of the ESP8266 capabilities with zero programming only using a tailored web interface or integrated API. This way it is possible to easily substitute and surpass capabilities of many professional devices on the market with only a simple, low budget configuration. Moreover, thanks to the open API it is easy to integrate the unicontrol device with various third-party tools like Node-RED, MQTT mobile apps and more.

How to start

You may easily try it out following these steps:

  1. Download unicontrol for free,
  2. Flash your ESP8266 board with the downloaded .bin file,
  3. Find out the IP address of your device,
  4. Open the unicontrol web interface online or from the downloaded archive.
  5. Enter the device's IP address and press Connect.

Now you are in full control of a unicontrol device and can proceed by following our beginner tutorials.

Once connected, all devices carrying unicontrol can be fully controlled via a html-based interface in its three versions:

  • Local Network Interface - a complete control interface embedded within the downloaded .ZIP archive. All communication takes place entirely within the local network, thus no internet connection is required at any point.
  • Android app - a complete control interface that can be installed on your Android device.
  • Online web interface - a complete control interface hosted on our website. Once downloaded to your device, all subsequent network communication occurs exclusively within your local network. No data is exchanged with ayatec or any other server.
